Men Masturbate. (Spoiler Alert!) It's the How That's Interesting
Every year, Tenga, a sex toy and accessory company, conducts the world's largest survey on masturbation habits. According to its 2020 Global Self-Pleasure Report, an estimated 84 percent of Americans of all genders masturbate regularly.
In particular, the study found that 88 percent of the men surveyed reported self-pleasure as part of their regular routine.
Defining 'regular'
It begs the question: What is "regular" masturbation or a "regular" routine? Well, a survey conducted by Bespoke Surgical found that men masturbate 14.8 times a month on average—almost every other day!
And who can blame them? Medical experts report that masturbation can improve sleep, reduce stress, decrease the occurrence of muscle cramps, and improve overall mood. But the potential benefits don't stop there. Research published by the National Institutes of Health found that masturbation may also be an effective way to combat sexual dysfunction such as premature ejaculation.
Masturbation habits among men
Every man has his own rituals when it comes to masturbation, from a private moment in the shower to a dedicated routine in the bedroom. Some men may find arousal through the power of their own thoughts, while others may use some type of visual aid to set the mood.
While the stimuli vary widely, multiple studies point to three of the most common tactics men use when they masturbate:
- Watch porn. Once taboo, watching porn is now much more socially acceptable than it once was, especially with the rise of ethical porn sites. It likely comes as no surprise that many men watch porn online as a way to achieve and maintain arousal during masturbation.
- Fantasize. For men who aren't into porn for one reason or another, the power of the mind comes in handy during masturbation. In fact, a study by sex toy retailer Lovehoney recently found that out of 4,500 people surveyed, the majority of both men and women said they fantasized about their partner when masturbating. Of course, fantasies don't have to be only about your partner. Consider putting your creativity to the test next time you get ready to masturbate.
- Incorporate toys. For some men, incorporating sex toys into self-pleasure is the key to greater satisfaction. If you've never tried this and want to experiment, do a quick internet search. You'll find hundreds of sex toys, including FleshLights, strokers, cock rings, anal toys and more.
Given the potential benefits of masturbation, it's no wonder self-pleasure is part of the regular routine of so many men. With so many different ways to experiment with masturbation, you're sure to find enough possibilities to keep you busy for as long as you want.
