Is Prostatitis an STD?
Prostatitis is not classified as a sexually transmitted disease (STD). It refers to the inflammation of the prostate gland, which can result from various causes including bacterial infection, nerve damage in the area around the prostate, immune system or hormonal issues, and even certain forms of physical activity. While some cases of prostatitis can be caused by bacterial infection that may be transmitted during sexual activity, most cases are not associated with sexually transmitted infections. Therefore, prostatitis itself is considered a separate condition and not an STD. However, because it can sometimes have a bacterial cause similar to an STD, it's important to see a healthcare provider for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
