Can Rogaine Cause Erectile Dysfunction?
The use of Rogaine (minoxidil) for hair loss is not directly linked to the onset of erectile dysfunction (ED). Minoxidil is a topical treatment that is applied to the scalp to stimulate hair growth and is generally considered safe with side effects more commonly related to skin irritation and allergy rather than sexual function. While there have been anecdotal reports of sexual side effects from users of hair loss treatments, these are often associated with oral medications like finasteride (used in Propecia and Proscar), which work through a different mechanism involving the inhibition of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Since minoxidil operates locally to widen blood vessels and improve blood flow, without altering hormone levels, it is less likely to impact sexual health. However, as with any medication, individual reactions can vary, and any concerns should be discussed with a healthcare provider.
