Is Orgasm in Less Than 3 Minutes Possible With the Kivin Method?
Key Points
- It's estimated that 90.9 percent of women enjoy receiving oral sex, but 55.9 percent noted that the main barrier to satisfaction was technique.
- The Kivin method allows side-to-side and full-on clitoral stimulation and provides the giver with easier access to the receiver's vulva and anus for added pleasure.
- There are five steps to successful oral play using the Kivin method.
In the Hulu TV series "The Great," when Peter (played by actor Nicholas Hoult) believed he'd forever lost the love of his wife, Catherine (played by actor Elle Fanning), he attempted some new cunnilingus tricks. They didn't win her heart back immediately, but viewers could tell they were paving the way.
If a few clever "tricks of the tongue" saved one of the most problematic fictional marriages from disaster—including an overthrow of the Russian throne—surely the promise of an upgraded technique can be just as successful in real life.
We present to you: the Kivin method.
Good technique, greater satisfaction
Statistics don't lie. It's estimated that 91 percent of women enjoy receiving oral sex, according to a survey conducted by the experts at the Bad Girls Bible website.
However, not everyone reported complete satisfaction. Almost 80 percent of the 1,058 women surveyed said they had at least one unpleasant experience during cunnilingus.
Related problems during oral sex included feeling uncomfortable (47.7 percent) and failing to reach orgasm (47.7 percent). However, the biggest complaint, according to 55.9 percent of those taking part in the study, was bad technique.
Want to avoid falling into that category? A few simple tricks might up your game.
What is the Kivin method?
"The Kivin method is oral sex with a twist," said Jasmine Richardson, L.P.C., a Philadelphia-based individual, relationship and sex therapy specialist with Healthy Mindset PA.
She explained that with this technique, people receive oral sex from the side and get stimulation of the vulva. The individual performing oral sex approaches the receiving individual from the side instead of head-on. Meanwhile, the receiver is lying flat on their back with either one or both legs up and the giver is lying underneath, forming a T.
"This allows a side-to-side and full-on clitoral stimulation," Richardson said. "This position also allows the giver to have easier access to stimulate the receiver's vulva and anus for added pleasure."

Guaranteed orgasm within minutes?
The Kivin method is known for fast orgasms—less than three minutes in some reported cases—but the goal isn't to rush. Avoid setting a mental timer and think marathon rather than a sprint.
One thing to remember, however, is if it doesn't work for you or your partner, it's not wasted time. You are experimenting and learning new skills, which is never a bad thing as long as you're both up for it.
"Please abandon the idea of time as a marker for success with the Kivin method or anything else you do sexually,"said Erika Evans, Ph.D., L.M.F.T., a specialist in human sexuality, marriage and family, with a practice in Philadelphia. "I very much discourage people from using time as a parameter for determining whether this is an effective technique for a person or not."
The success of the Kivin method largely depends on the interactions that occur before you get to it. It may work for some people in three minutes one time, but it may take six minutes or even more the next time, even with the same partner.
"Solid foreplay—of which there are a variety of types—can set the stage for a fairly quick orgasmic experience. It all depends on the level of arousal," Evans said. "Time to achieve an orgasm can change by person, by experience and by state of mind."
The Kivin method is different from regular cunnilingus.
"Traditional oral sex often focuses on clitoral stimulation," Richardson said. "The Kivin method is different from regular cunnilingus because it allows oral sex to be approached from an angle that allows access and stimulation to the clitoris, the entire vulva, as well as the perineum."
How do you start with the Kivin method?
To become a Kivin superstar, Evans suggests five steps for success.
1. Get in position
The receiver should be lying on their back with one leg in the air. Meanwhile, the person giving oral sex should be perpendicular to the receiver on the side where the leg is in the air and position their head to the side, facing the vulva.
2. Work with your tongue
This position allows you to lick horizontally and reach places besides the clitoris, such as the labia and vulva. Your mouth and tongue can make different movements to determine what feels best for your partner.
3. Play with sensations and pressure
"Try out different pressures for how you lick and suck," Evans recommended. "Play around with different things such as trying each side of the clitoris. The sensation for the left side of the clitoris can be different from the right side, underneath or at the tip."
4. Avoid focusing on a single area
Evans said this position gives easier access to the perineum, so be sure to pay attention to that area. It is full of pleasure receptors.
5. Add your hands and extra stimulation
"Play with different sensations such as using a finger for penetration or a vibrating bullet to accompany your licking," Evans said.

Why should you try the Kivin method tonight?
Users on social media platforms such as Reddit claim to have experienced more intense sensations with this type of oral sex.
"The Kivin method offers deeper pleasure due to having full access to the entire vulva area as well as being able to use both hands for added pleasure," Richardson said.
You can never go wrong using your fingers to help out. According to the 2021 Bad Girls Bible survey, 92 percent of respondents enjoyed it when their partner used their fingers during oral sex.
More sensitive people can have better results as well, avoiding the discomfort associated with single-zone manipulation.
"Traditional oral sex can sometimes be overly stimulating because of the direct focus on the clitoris," Richardson said.
The good news about oral sex, when you incorporate the Kivin method, is you can practice it even if you think you're past the age limit. Giving and receiving oral sex helps improve the perception of relationship quality in older adults, according to a 2019 study published in The Journals of Gerontology. The study suggested that oral sex played an important role in the later years of life because of the prevalence of sexual dysfunctions in both partners.
