Can CBD Intensify Orgasms?
Cannabidiol (CBD) touts a wide variety of medicinal benefits. Some evidence shows CBD use may intensify orgasms, but how effective is it for increasing sexual pleasure?
The answer to that question is multilayered.
CBD & its uses
Cannabidiol is an ingredient derived from the Cannabis sativa (marijuana) plant. It’s a common component of medical marijuana, but it’s not the substance that causes you to get high (that’s THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol). While some people may be averse to using CBD for medicinal purposes because of its association with marijuana, some studies show numerous benefits associated with its use, including boosting physical and mental health and wellness.
While CBD is sometimes misunderstood as a dangerous substance, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports cannabidiol doesn’t have the potential to cause dependence or public health problems.
Some doctors prescribe CBD to treat specific medical conditions:
- Reduce seizures in children with specific types of epilepsy
- Lower anxiety and depression
- Improve insomnia symptoms
- Reduce chronic pain
- Lessen arthritis-related inflammation
- Relieve chemotherapy side effects
- Protect against neurodegenerative diseases
- Reduce skin problems
- Manage and treat addiction
As researchers continue assessing CBD, sexual health has emerged as an area of interest, especially as some people who use it are reporting increased levels of sexual satisfaction.
CBD & orgasms
Studies pertaining to cannabidiol and orgasms are limited and mostly anecdotal. However, CBD is known to improve blood flow as well as nerve sensation, both factors that contribute to sexual health and which can increase sexual pleasure and make orgasms more powerful.
The lack of research makes it difficult to be specific about CBD’s effects. Cannabidiol notoriously interacts with each individual differently, and what may work for one person may have no effect on another.
That’s another reason why it’s important to check in with your doctor before using CBD to intensify orgasms or combat any medical issue.
Drawbacks & side effects
While you may experience potential benefits while using CBD to improve your sexual experiences, possible drawbacks and side effects include fatigue, irritability and nausea, as well as negative interactions with medications you may be taking.
Some studies carried out on animals show chronic CBD use reduces testis size, inhibits fertilization rates and impairs sexual behavior. While such studies have not been replicated on humans, it’s important to note cannabidiol use hasn’t been widely studied at all, and the most effective CBD doses are not well established.
Other ways to intensify orgasms
If you struggle to have intense orgasms, or orgasms at all, and want a natural solution rather than a pharmaceutical one, you have options besides CBD. Such natural solutions include maintaining a healthy weight, eating nutritious foods, getting regular exercise and plenty of sleep, keeping your stress levels low, and communicating honestly with your partner about what gives you pleasure.
Options your doctor may recommend in addition to or in place of CBD include dietary supplements, medications, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, regenerative medicine and shockwave therapy.
Is CBD right for me?
Always check in with your doctor before trying any new treatments—natural or pharmaceutical—and listen to their advice as you work together to develop a customized treatment that’s safe and effective for you.
The bottom line is there really hasn’t been much research available from tests examining the effects of cannabidiol on orgasm intensity. Anecdotal evidence suggests possible benefits, but everyone is different and CBD use isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.
